MUL 2380 - Popular & Jazz Music in America

Prerequisites: ENC 1101 .  No prerequisite musical skills or knowledge required. 

This course fulfills the 6,000 word writing requirement for Gordon Rule classes. This course examines the development of American music in an analytical and historical manner. It covers the beginnings of jazz, blues, rock and popular music in the 19th Century with the fusion of Western European and African cultures to the styles of the present. This course introduces students to the unique artists who contributed to the formation and evolution of American music. American music is the combination of European, African-American, Latino, and other musical traditions, forming a unique sound that shaped the United States.
