REL 2240 - Introduction to the New Testament

This course meets Area IV requirements for the A.A./A.S. general education requirements. The course is an introduction to the academic study of the New Testament, one of the most influential texts of western civilization and history. A wide range of methodologies will be used that come under the category of historical and literary criticism including selections from the western canon, enabling students to understand and analyze the meaning of the document in its original context as well as in the contemporary one. The course offers a study of the historical and theological background of the New Testament world, the life and teachings of Jesus, and early Christian literature. Attention is given to the date and authorship of individual writings.
