  • MUS 1550 - Music Technology


    (3 Credit Hours)
    (A.A.)


    The purpose of this course is to introduce students to skills needed for a career in music technology, as a sound technician, music teachers in popular music, or to provide supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in these occupations. The content includes, but is not limited to, set up and configuration of a computer for audio applications, and the operation of basic reproduction, reinforcement and recording audio equipment, digital music notation, music production techniques using computers, and live music performances using technology. As the traditional music studio has evolved towards the laptop environment, this course explores the modern small studio techniques that represent a growing percent of the current music industry. Students will be evaluated on individual and group projects in recording, computer software composition, music notation fluency, music technology for live performances, and stage management. 

    Three hours per week. Prerequisites: No prerequisite musical skills or knowledge required, but students without traditional music training should contact the instructor directly for an evaluation.

  • MUT 1011 - Fundamentals of Music for Non-Majors

    Three hours per week.

    This course is a presentation of the basic concepts and perception of pitch, rhythm, music notation, sight singing and ear training. Included among these concepts are the rudiments of music, including scales, key signatures, intervals, chords, meter and basic rhythm patterns. This course is designed for students who do not intend to major in music.

    This course includes the continued development of reading, technique and repertoire to the advanced level and continued study of technical exercises applicable to each of the percussion instruments. This may include rudiments, scales and arpeggios on specific instruments. All students perform in one student recital and exhibit their development through jury examination at the end of the term.
