Program Goal

This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers such as cabling specialist, PC support technician, network control operator, data communications analyst, help desk specialist, network technician, computer security specialist, network specialist, network manager, network systems analyst, network systems technician, network troubleshooter, WAN/LAN manager or systems administrator.

The content includes, but is not limited to, how to plan, install, configure, monitor, troubleshoot and manage computer networks in a LAN/WAN environment. Students will be prepared to apply conceptual and theoretical knowledge to the workplace utilizing technical skills learned during the program.

Program Entrance Requirements

To be admitted to the Networking Services Technology Program, a student must have:

  1. Achieved a level of mathematics proficiency that qualifies the student for entry into +  or higher, as demonstrated by the standard placement criteria currently in use at State College of Florida, ManateeSarasota (SCF);
  2. Achieved a level of English and reading proficiency that qualifies the student for entry into   or higher, as demonstrated by the standard placement criteria currently in use at SCF; and
  3. Successfully completed Computer Information Systems ( ) with a grade of “C” or better.

+Effective Fall 2013, no new students are being accepted into an A.A.S. degree program. Students currently enrolled will have two years (Summer 2015) to complete the A.A.S. specific requirements of the program. The only difference of the A.A.S. from the A.S. curriculum for this particular program is that of one math course (
